Corporation, The
Year: 2003
Directed by: Mark Achbar & Jennifer Abbott
Genre: Documentary
Rating: 10 out of 10
Comments:
Political views take a back seat in the most important motion picture of our time. While many
films touch on important subjects, this one takes on the corporation; the institution that impacts every living
being in the world today.
Dead End
Year: 2004
Studio: Lions Gate
Directed by: Jean-Baptiste Andrea & Fabrice Canepa
Genre: Horror
Rating: 5.5 out of 10
Comments:
This underrated film manages to reasonably entertain if you're in the mood for a Twlight
Zone-type of genre film. A bickering family takes a short cut on their way to Christmas dinner but soon finds
themselves lost. Strange things begin to happen to the family after giving a woman and her baby a ride.
*Batteries Not Included
Year: 1987
Studio: Universal Pictures
Directed by: Matthew Robbins
Produced by: Steven Spielberg
Genre: Sci-Fi, Fantasy
Rating: 5.5 out of 10
Comments:
A film originally intended for "Amazing Stories" about tenants who get help from mechanical
alien life-forms in their effort to save their building from demolition. This Spielberg produced film is somewhat
odd but you'll enjoy yourself.
Aliens vs Predator - Requiem (AVP-R)
Year: 2007
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Directed by: Colin Strause & Greg Strause
Genre: Action, Horror, Sci-Fi
Rating: 5 out of 10
Comments:
This is the eighth entry in total for both franchises and it's obvious it has lost its magic. When a
predator ship crash lands in the hills outside of a small town, aliens escape and begin to wreak havoc on the
towns inhabitants. Meanwhile, a single predator travels to earth to destroy the aliens and any human that
gets in its way. We get a R-rated release this time so expect more blood and violence AND expect to see a lot
of characters pop up and dispatched very quickly. This is obviously more for the AvP fans of the comic books
and video games. The half-breed alien-predator makes some of the action confusing. For fans of the series.
Accepted
Year: 2006
Studio: Universal Pictures
Directed by: Steve Pink
Genre: Comedy
Rating: 5 out of 10
Comments:
Tame PG-13 comedy that feels like it’s trying to appeal to a younger audience rather then live
up to its potential. You’ll be mildly entertained with the young cast if you can go into this with an open mind. A
high school graduate (Justin Long) is rejected from college and comes up with a plan to fool his parents into
thinking he’s been accepted into a fictional college. The plan works with the help of his friends but works a
little too well.
Beerfest
Year: 2006
Studio: Warner Bros.
Directed by: Jay Chandrasekhar
Genre: Comedy
Rating: 6 out of 10
Comments:
You’ll love this film if you enjoyed ‘Super Troopers’. This is a cult classic. Two brothers discover
a super secret drinking competition while in Germany and return to compete against the big bad Germans.
Be advised to stay away if you're not a fan of the Broken Lizard comedy group or their style of humor.
Die Hard
Year: 1988
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Directed by: John McTiernan
Genre: Action
Rating: 7 out of 10
Comments:
A brilliant action film that revolutionized and revitalized the action genre with career-making
performances by both Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman. A New York cop (Willis) gives a group of terrorists led
by Hans Gruber (Rickman) a taste of their own medicine as they hold an LA office building hostage. One of
the best action films from the ‘80’s.
Die Hard 2: Die Harder
Year: 1990
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Directed by: Renny Harlin
Rating: 6 out of 10
Comments:
An enjoyable continuation of the ‘Die Hard’ series. This time John McClane is forced to battle
mercenaries who hijack an airport and threatens to crash incoming planes if their demands are not met.
Colonel Stuart (William Sadler) makes a formidable villain and the action is no longer confined to a lone office
building so expect a lot of explosive action on a larger scale.
Die Hard With a Vengeance (Die Hard 3)
Year: 1995
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Directed by: John McTiernan
Rating: 5.5 out of 10
Comments:
Lost a little bit of the ‘Die Hard’ fun of the previous entries. John McClane is back in New York
City and is forced to play a game of Simon Says with a diabolical terrorist. The film features Samuel L
Jackson as a store owner who unwittingly gets caught up in the action. Bonnie Bedelia doesn't reprise her
role as Holly and her disappearance from the series is felt. Simon (Jeremy Irons) is the least formidable villain
in the series. He just doesn’t seem that threatening. Part of that flaw is in the plot. However, this is a must see
for ‘Die Hard’ fans. Followed by 'Live Free or Die Hard.'
Commando
Year: 1985
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Directed by: Mark L. Lester
Genre: Action
Rating: 7 out of 10
Comments:
Strictly for guys, action fanatics, and Arnold Schwarzenegger fans but one of the best action
films in the last 30 years. John Matrix, a retired elite commando has only a few hours to rescue his daughter
(Alyssa Milano) from an exiled dictator who wants to force him to murder the president of a Latin American
country. Arnold is at his best here and the popcorn fun of this film surpasses even the ‘Terminator’ films if
you want straight action.
Cloverfield
Year: 2008
Studio: Paramount
Directed by: Matt Reeves
Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Horror
Rating: 6 out of 10
Comments: You might need to bring out the barf bags for this film. This might play more effectively on the
small screen which makes it easier for the audience to step away to take a breather. The camera ploy seems
a little redundant after awhile. This is the unluckiest group of the bunch since almost everywhere they go;
they are somehow close to the action. An unstoppable monster attacks New York while a group of survivors
capture the experience from their camcorder.
40 Year Old Virgin, The
Year: 2005
Studio: Universal Pictures
Directed by: Judd Apatow
Genre: Comedy
Rating: 8.5 out of 10
Comments:
One of the funniest comedies in years featuring Steve Carell in his breakout performance as a
nerdy 40 year old stock boy who happens to also be a virgin. The pressure begins to mount for Andy to do
the deed when his buddies discover his secret and convince him to meet women. If you’re not laughing
uncontrollably during this film, you need to lighten up and stop taking life so seriously.
